Who is behind this blog?
Hey, nice to meet you. Thanks for being here and wanting to know a little more about SocialEnterpriseTimes.com
So, who am I and what´s this blog about?
My name is Ryan A. Morrison (@Rymorrison), Chilean (the name doesn´t match with being a South american Latino guy… I know… I know. My great grand father decided to emigrate from Scotland to Chile many years ago. So that´s the short story about it), I live in Amsterdam, The Netherlands with my lovely Dutch wife and my future daughter (still in her mom´s belly).
I´ve always been very interested in the relationship between business and technology. Especially on how companies apply technology to solve problems in a more efficient way. To get more customers, to build better products, to give a better service to their customers, to be more efficient, etc. In short, to be a much more competitive organization.
With the rise of new social technologies (today this process is faster than ever) we see two types of companies: the ones that understand the process and take advantage of it and the slow ones that are resistant to change.
This is getting very dynamic and if you don´t get it and you don´t keep up with the new social technologies you´ll be simply out of the game soon. And that´s sad, it´s not only cold statistics, but real people losing their jobs. Yes, what do you think happens when companies are not longer competitive ? They fire people. And if the company is big. Well, they fire A LOT of people. So this is serious stuff.
It´s not just about software and internet and geeky stuff (like many C-level managers think). It´s about: are we going to be in the market in the next 5 years or are we going to be kicked out of the game by a player we didn´t even know existed.
That, of course, is not the case for all slow, non innovative companies. Big companies can always buy smaller players to keep up (in fact, there is a lot of that happening today). But well, I´ll be posting much more about this.
So, why did I start with SET?
I´ve been always obsessed with internet and it´s potential…so I surf the web A LOT every day.
I always put every cool piece of information I see on the web on Delicious and Evernote (like many of you do). But there was a problem with that, I wanted to see the topics I´m interested in a Newspaper or a Blog format.
In 2012 I had to do a pretty comprehensive online research about Enterprise 2.0, Corporate Social Networking and current ways of collaboration in companies. It was very interesting but it took me a looooong time to gather all the information I needed. Everything was out there. That wasn´t the problem. The problem was that everything was dispersed. I found valuable information but I had to go through hundreds of different Blogs, Slideshare presentations, Whitepapers, E-books, Youtube videos, etc.
So I thought: it would be great if there would be a blog that shows all the topics that I´m interested in:
- Social Media
- Social Business
- Enterprise 2.0
- Content Marketing
- SEO
- Big Data
- Social Software
- Knowledge Management
- Startups
But there was no Blog that covered all those topics (don´t get me wrong, there are GREAT blogs about this topics but not one that covered this specific ones that I´m interested in). So I decided to create the blog I would love to read everyday. And that´s SocialEnterpriseTimes.com
The goal is to provide you with all the information you need to know about this topics. I want Social Enterprise Times to become the hub where you go every time you need to find what´s happening in any of these markets.
