SharePoint is a great platform. A bit complex. Hell yeah. But you can do a lot with it.
So if your organization has Sharepoint and your are the team that has manage it then you need to:
a. Get people to use it. For this check this good article about SharePoint user adoption.
b. Design a good governance plan.
Are you looking for an alternative to Sharepoint? See Papyrs profile
With regards to the latter, I talked to Rob van Empel, Sharepoint Technical Expert at Philips.
Here are the things he says you should keep in mind:
- The customers should be the most important component in your governance plan.
- The development cycle of applications has to be as short and smart as possible
- Make sure applications are build with the shared platform in mind. That way anyone can build an application that coexists with the other ones.
According to Rob, if you build governance with those principles in mind, you’ll:
a. Save resources
b. Prevent unnecessary problems
c. Have happy users because they’ve been considered in the development process
