Dear readers of the Social Enterprise Times,
I just wanted to share with you a very weird situation that just occurred to me.
Two days ago I was told by my employer I had to shut this blog down.
The main reason: I was “disclosing highly confidential company information”
As you all can see in every post I’ve written I always talk about general stuff about Social Business and Social Media.
I have never disclosured any company information.
I like social technology.I find it very interesting and that’s why I write about it. Because I’m passionate about it and I think companies should incorporate social in their business strategy. I think we would all benefit from that.
Well, apparently that’s not what my boss thinks. So he fired me today.
I really don’t want to shut this blog down. It’s my hobby, my passion. And even more I think I can help a lot of people that is looking for this kind of information.
But I’ve been told by my employer (ironically a social software company) I have to shut it down anyway. Yes, even though I don’t work for them any longer. If not I would be facing a penalty of a substantial amount of money (money that I don’t have of course…even more now that I don’t have a job anymore). I find this ridiculous.
It’s sad and very hard to digest. It feels bad to be treated like a criminal just because you have a personal blog where you like to share your passion: Social Business.
I think it’s really unfair. I haven’t done anything wrong!
Well, if you read this post and you consider this kind of situations shouldn’t happen anywhere, if you think it’s unfair and if you want to help me please tweet (adding #GotFiredForBlogging) about this article and express your opinion about it.
As I said I don’t have a job anymore and I have a family to take care of so here are some things I’m good at, if you want to hire me as a consultant (or if you know someone that needs these services):
- Developing a thriving community for your customers, fans, supporters, donors, employees or other stakeholders.
- Designing and implementing an Intranet Adoption plan.
- Designing and implementing a Social Media and Social Business strategy for your organization or small business.
What do you think about this situation?
Thank you for your support,
Ryan
